Step counts are pulled from a wearable (Fitbit, Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Garmin, Google Pixel Watch) so no one can fake a walk. Winnings settle on-chain on Base.

No. Lucilla is skills-based — the outcome is determined entirely by who takes more real, verified steps during the match. There is no randomness, no chance element, and no house edge. Entry stakes go directly to the winner's wallet. This is legally distinct from gambling in most jurisdictions because skill, not chance, decides the winner.

How is Lucilla different from Pacer, Sweatcoin, or StepN?

Accepted Answer

Pacer pays points (not cash) and uses phone-only step counts that can be gamed. Sweatcoin pays in-app currency with poor real-money redemption. StepN requires buying NFT sneakers and collapsed in 2022. Lucilla pays real USDC on Base, requires a real wearable for paid matches (fraud-resistant), and works competitively — you win money by beating friends, not by hitting a solo step target.

How is pay-per-verified-visit cheaper than Google Ads, Meta, or Groupon for local businesses?

Accepted Answer

Google Ads and Meta charge per click — most clicks never become visits, and up to 30% is bot traffic. Groupon takes 50% of a discounted sale. Lucilla charges per verified in-person visit confirmed via GPS + QR. Because the unit is actual foot traffic instead of estimated impressions, the effective cost per visit is up to 60× lower than the major ad platforms.

Accepted Answer

Placer.ai, Foursquare, Cuebiq, and SafeGraph estimate foot traffic by sampling mobile location SDKs — they give probabilistic estimates with known accuracy gaps. Lucilla verifies each visit directly with GPS + a QR scan at the merchant's door. It's measurement, not statistics.

Fitbit, Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Garmin, and Google Pixel Watch are supported for paid (stake-based) matches — these have tamper-resistant step APIs. Phone-only step counts are accepted for free matches where there's no money on the line.

How much does pay-per-verified-visit cost a business?

Accepted Answer

Pricing is one industry rate per verified consumer visit, billed monthly. Coffee shops and bakeries pay $1.50 per visit, restaurants and bars $2, gyms and salons $3, dental and medspa $6, mortgage and insurance $10, legal and financial $12, real estate and plastic surgery $15, auto dealers $20. Reward type — USDC, promo, free pass, music, sponsored challenge — does not change the price. The first 100 verified visits are free during the first three months after signup. No setup fee, no monthly minimum, no separate platform percentage. Paid event tickets are the only exception (5% on first 500 paid tickets per month, 3% next, $0.25 flat after 5,000).

We are currently working with a small group of pilot customers to harden the platform before general release. The public business waitlist is open to any interested business.
